“Achan”
Blessings folk!
The Lord was with Joshua.
His fame increased in all the land.
All is well…?
Remember how Joshua had instructed the people?
Some things were to be “devoted to destruction”.
Other things were to be “devoted to the treasury of the Lord”.
Well, wouldn’t you know it…
Jos 7:1
But the people of Israel broke faith in regard to the devoted things,
for Achan the son of Carmi, son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah,
took some of the devoted things.
And the anger of the LORD burned against the people of Israel.
ESV
Read again.
Notice things of interest.
What happened?
The people of Israel broke faith in regard to the devoted things.
Note plural: people.
Which devoted things?
Things devoted to destruction?
Had they not destroyed some of which they should have?
Things devoted to the treasury?
Were things withheld?
Then this interesting thing.
Though the Lord says “people”…plural…He specifically mentions one person - Achan.
Hummm…perhaps we will see more as we go through the account.
Achan took some of the devoted things.
Ok, this clarifies.
They were things that were suppose to go into the treasury.
The result?
The anger of the Lord burned against the people of Israel.
For one act of one man?
We will see.
Know this.
Our actions have import.
