“Have Not Sinned…”
Blessings folk!
We continue rereading the passage…
1 Jo 1:8-10
If we say we have no sin,
we deceive ourselves,
and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins,
he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
If we say we have not sinned,
we make him a liar,
and his word is not in us.
ESV
If we say we have no sin…
This verse is frequently contorted.
Often believers will use this verse as an excuse for their sin.
The ole “I’m just a sinner saved by grace…I will always sin…nothing I can do” argument.
This is wrong.
We were sinners.
We are now saints.
We sinned because we were sinners.
We now sin, though a saint/holy one, because we choose to.
Do not choose such. We are empowered to chose well.
If we act like we are perfect and sinless…we deceive ourselves…we are not saved.
If we confess our sins…
To drive home the point, if we say we have not sinned…
Hear the Word of the Lord.
Know the Word of the Lord.
Live the Word of the Lord.
