“The Lord Gave…”
Blessings folk!
The book of Daniel begins immediately with a forthright account of what occurred.
Dan 1:1-2
In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah,
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it.
And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand,
with some of the vessels of the house of God.
And he brought them to the land of Shinar,
to the house of his god, and placed the vessels in the treasury of his god.
ESV
We know the precise time - the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim.
We know what happened - Jerusalem was besieged.
We know by whom - Nebuchadnezzar.
We know why - because the Lord gave Jehoiakim into Neb’s hand.
We know some of the vessels of the house of God were taken.
We know where the vessels went - to the land of Shinar…land of Neb.
We know what happened to the vessels - placed in the treasury of the house of Neb’s god.
Read carefully as we proceed.
Note…
God gave.
He gave Jehoiakim.
He gave some of the vessels of the house of God.
God is sovereign
God rules.
God reigns.
God does as He desires.
We will see this throughout Daniel…
