“What You Ask Is Difficult”

Blessings folk!

What would the response of the “wise-guys” be now?

Neb demanded that they tell him the dream(s) and interpretation or they would die.

Dan 2:10-11
The Chaldeans answered the king and said,
“There is not a man on earth who can meet the king’s demand,
for no great and powerful king has asked such a thing
of any magician or enchanter or Chaldean.

The thing that the king asks is difficult,
and no one can show it to the king except the gods,
whose dwelling is not with flesh.”
ESV

Whoa!
The wise-guys panicked.
They were exposed.
They admitted that no man on earth could meet the king’s demand.

Then, they do this.
They try to turn it back on the king.
No great king…
No powerful king…
No king has ever asked such a thing from his wise-guys.
Were they inferring that he was not great and powerful?
I suspect they were trying to get him to doubt himself and reverse the request.

The wise-guys reiterated that what the king asks is difficult.
Wait!
Difficult?
Not impossible?

Ah, they make a profound statement.
No one can show it except the gods.
With humans, it is impossible.
But with the gods, with those not dwelling in flesh, it might be possible?

They are about to see…
