“Fingers”

Blessings folk!

Belshazzar and his lords, along with other folk, were praising the gods of gold, silver, bronze, iron, wood and stoned using the vessels captured years before from the Temple in Jerusalem.

It was a great feast.

Then…

Dan 5:5
Immediately the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall of the king’s palace, opposite the lampstand. And the king saw the hand as it wrote.
ESV

Immediately…in the midst of the partying!

The fingers of a human hand appeared.
Hand with fingers.
It appeared and wrote on the plaster wall.
“Opposite the lamp stand”?
This tells us the wall was well-lit.

The king saw it.
He saw the hand writing something on the wall.

Wonder how he reacted?
We do not have to wonder…

Dan 5:6
Then the king’s color changed,
and his thoughts alarmed him;
his limbs gave way,
and his knees knocked together.
ESV

The color left his body…his blood retreated to vital organs.
His thoughts alarmed him.
His limbs gave way.
His knees knocked together.

Quite a physiological reaction.

The king was shocked.
Physically.
Emotionally.
Spiritually.

He wondered what it meant.
I think he he suspected what it meant.
His body began to collapse.

All the tough-talk.
All the tough-partying.
All the feigning of valor before the face of an enemy.

All collapses before a hand writing on a wall…
