“Three High Officials”
Blessings folk!
We saw this previously…
Dan 5:31
And Darius the Mede received the kingdom, being about sixty-two years old.
ESV
Darius is King.
Now, the next (and last) part of the chronology we have in Daniel…
Dan 6:1-2
It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom 120 satraps, to be throughout the whole kingdom;
and over them three high officials, of whom Daniel was one,
to whom these satraps should give account, so that the king might suffer no loss.
ESV
Darius was organizing his kingdom/government.
He set satraps over each province…apparently 120 of them.
A satrap is a “prince”…a “governor”.
They were to give account so that the king would not suffer loss.
They kept eyes on things on behalf of the king.
They reported to three high officials.
Daniel was one of these high officials.
Not only was Daniel not executed as third in the Babylonian kingdom, he was now one of the Big 3 in the Medo-Persian government.
How?
Obviously the hand of the Lord…as we have seen…He place who He wants where He wants.
Had Darius heard of Daniel?
Likely.
Did Darius realize the wisdom of incorporating Daniel in government…for his sake and the sake of the conquered people?
Undoubtedly.
Daniel is a vivid example of faithfulness to the Lord in changing times.
May we be as Daniel.
