“No Claim”
Blessings folk!
Jesus had told His disciples that Father would send Holy Spirit to them.
Jesus had told them that Spirit would teach them and remind them of all Jesus said.
Jesus gave them peace.
Jesus told them that His peace would stay with them.
Jesus told them to “let not your heart be troubled”.
They could choose…troubled heart? Peace-filled heart?
Jesus then tells them forthrightly - “I am going to the Father”.
He told them to love Him.
He told them to rejoice.
Then, Jesus closes out their conversation in this room with a sobering statement…
John 14:30-31
I will no longer talk much with you,
for the ruler of this world is coming.
He has no claim on me,
but I do as the Father has commanded me,
so that the world may know that I love the Father.
Rise, let us go from here.
ESV
Jesus would not talk with them much longer.
Why?
Because the ruler of the world was coming.
He was coming for Jesus.
But Jesus encouraged them…and us.
The ruler of the world has no claim on Jesus.
There was conflict brewing.
There was a time of overt conflict about to manifest.
Then the all important “but”.
“But”, Jesus is doing as Father commanded Him.
Why all this?
So that the world will know that Jesus loves Father.
Then, Jesus instructs “Rise, let us go from here.”
Rise.
It is time.
Let us go from here.
To where?
We will see.
