“Abide In Him”
Blessings folk!
Jesus told His disciples…
John 15:1-2
“I am the true vine,
and my Father is the vinedresser.
Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away,
and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes,
that it may bear more fruit.
ESV
Then, He says…
John 15:3
Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you.
What was Jesus saying?
“Clean” means that they were “innocent”, “pure”…in the context, “pruned”.
They were clean because of the Word that Jesus spoke to them.
They had believed His Word.
They therefore were clean, pure, pruned…ready to bear abundant fruit.
Were they “perfect” in the sense that man always uses the word?
No.
Read what the Lord tells them to do…
John 15:4
Abide in me, and I in you.
As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself,
unless it abides in the vine,
neither can you,
unless you abide in me.
They…and we…must abide in Him.
We can not bear fruit by ourselves.
We bear fruit in/through Him.
Not only do we abide in Him, He abides in us.
If we do not abide in Him, we quench His abiding.
In all things…
At all times…
Abide in Him.
